Eleventh Pokemon movie takes second at Japanese box office
The latest Pokemon movie, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl the Movie: Giratina and the Sky’s Bouquet, hit Japanese theaters on the 19th, bringing in some rather sweet deals!
Pokemon fans who bought tickets to view the film were graced with a level 50 Shaymin when they brought their Nintendo DS to the movie. Additionally, those who preordered their tickets were able to download a level 100 Regigigas onto their Diamond and Pearl Games.
With the film’s release, we also now know the movie’s performance at the Japanese box office. The movie made 1,018,767,450 yen, the equivalent to about 9.45 million USD. 981,543 people attended the movie, setting the eleventh Pokemon film at a comfortable second place in the Japanese box office right behind Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and beating notable films such as Boys Over Flowers: The Movie and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Pokemon films are a big thing in Japan. As of current, Gekijōban Poketto Monsutā Daiyamondo Pāru Diaruga Tai Parukia Tai Dākurai (Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai), has had the thirty-fifth largest opening weekend in Japanese film history. On its opening weekend, it was in fact at the very top.
